ABOUT JUANA

A woman stands outdoors at sunset with a dramatic cloudy sky in the background. She has a serious expression, arms crossed, wearing a baseball cap, a scarf, a long-sleeve shirt, and a jacket.

JUANA blends her artistic paths as a self-producing musician and dancer, integrating the cultural diversity of her upbringing. She explores the interaction between these forms, drawing from her dance background in the Berlin House and Hip-Hop Freestyle scenes.

With her Bachelor's in Electronic Music Production & Performance, the multi-instrumentalist fuses art rock, synths, ambient, and Latin rhythms highlighting field recordings and vocal layering.

In 2022, she debuted her first dance production De mon âme à ton âmeat the Berliner Festspiele and has since presented her music at venues such as Heimathafen Neukölln and atelierhaus mengerzeile, contributing to Sarah Schurian’s installation EXHALATION. In 2024, she collaborated on an audiovisual work shown at Sónar Istanbul. Her collaboration Jack Of All Trades was part of the “Performing Exiles” Festival 2025 at Berliner Festspiele.

Since finishing her first two EPs, JUANA has performed them in intimate venues and bars such as Holzmarkt and Alte Münze. For her latest music and dance piece HERE SURROUNDED BY WATER, sold out and performed at tak Theater Berlin in May 2025, she deepened the interdisciplinary work directing dancers, an actress and a stage designer. Through movement and sound she researches cultural belonging and identity based on her Nicaraguan heritage and uses field recordings as a method of exploring place and memory.

During her residency at HELLERAU, funded by Musicboard Berlin, she expanded her music performanc practice by experimenting with a movement tracking sensor to control her voice and also working with ambisonic sound systems. The results were then presented at an Open Studio and at the event “Black Box White Cube XR” in autumn 2025 at HELLERAU.

In spring 2026 she finished her residency at Ada Studios with her duo OSÉWHEN, researching on translating essences of Nicaraguan Folclore Dance into her House Dance practice.
